"Sindh plans to initiate a large-scale operation targeting street criminals in Karachi."

The Caretaker Sindh Government, under Chief Minister Justice (R) Maqbool Baqar's leadership, plans to join forces with the Pakistan Army, Police, and the Rangers for a major operation targeting dacoits in Sindh's Katcha area. Their goal is to eradicate the kidnapping threat to innocent people, as discussed in a cabinet meeting. In 2023, data indicates 218 kidnappings in the region, with 207 individuals rescued, while 11 remain in captivity.

During the discussion, it was revealed that when the current IG Police assumed office, there were 57 kidnappings, of which 46 had already been resolved, leaving 11 individuals still missing. The CM instructed the IG Police to prioritize the recovery of the remaining 11 kidnapping victims and to ensure regular communication with their families to update them on police efforts. Additionally, the cabinet was informed that dacoits in the Katcha area of four districts (Kashmore, Shikarpur, Ghotki, and Sukkur) had entrenched themselves in fortified hideouts, making them difficult to apprehend.

In the Katcha area, home to 400,000 residents across 238 villages, a significant challenge is posed by well-armed dacoits equipped with military-grade weapons that can counter armored personnel carriers (APCs). This region experiences fluctuations in Indus water flow during the monsoon and kharif seasons. Currently, there are eight police stations and 20 check posts established by the Sindh police in this area.

To address the situation, the IG police has proposed a plan to establish 390 additional police posts along the protective bund in the affected districts. These new posts will be equipped with advanced weaponry and technology.

The cabinet has decided to launch a joint operation involving the police, Rangers, and the Pakistan Army to eliminate the dacoits' hideouts. Concurrently, efforts will target organized weapon smuggling groups responsible for arming the dacoits. Measures will also be implemented to cut off the dacoits' access to cyber and digital communication channels in their operating areas.
