PM Kakar reaffirms Pakistan's backing for the Global Development Initiative


    Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar attended the Sustainable Development Goals Summit Leader's Dialogue during the United Nations General Assembly.

    In his speech, he expressed Pakistan's support for the Global Development Initiative (GDI) and stressed the importance of adequate financing and action in critical areas to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

    Kakar called for action in areas such as food production, infrastructure investment, industrialization, healthcare system resilience, and addressing the digital divide. He emphasized the need for global and regional cooperation to effectively implement the development agenda and welcomed China's pledge of a $10 billion fund for the GDI.

    Kakar acknowledged setbacks in SDG progress due to crises like COVID-19, conflict, and climate change. He highlighted the significance of China's Belt and Road Initiative and the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor in achieving the SDGs and expressed Pakistan's commitment to enhancing cooperation with Beijing and other GDI members to realize their collective SDG goals.
